A solid larch noise barrier.
A wood noise barrier with a unique design that reaches high acoustic standards and exceptional durability. Absorptive on one side, reflective on the other.
The larch noise barrier.
The HF1 is a larch-wood noise barrier whose unique design achieves high acoustic standards and exceptional durability at a competitive price. By optimizing acoustic principles and using patented technology that minimizes contact zones, the wall combines larch and rock wool.
The product installs quickly by sliding between two H-posts. To extend its service life, it is topped with a metal cap and installed on a concrete panel. The HF1 is absorptive on one side and reflective on the other.
Manufactured in Canada in our facilities, it is distributed across North America.

Everything people ask us about the HF1.
What acoustic attenuation can be expected from the HF1?
The HF1 can achieve attenuation of up to −10 dB, depending on wall height, site configuration, and the distance between the source and the receiver.
Our team validates expected performance for each project using an acoustic study and corridor modelling.
Does the HF1 meet MTMD requirements?
Yes. The HF1 complies with the requirements of Quebec's Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility (MTMD) for noise barriers along the road network. We provide the technical documentation and certifications needed to support the project file.
What is the service life of an HF1 wall?
The HF1 has a service life of more than 40 years. Larch is naturally dense and weather-resistant, and the rock-wool core maintains its acoustic and mechanical properties over time.
Does larch require treatment or maintenance?
No. Larch is one of the world's most durable softwoods and requires no chemical treatment. It greys naturally over time without losing structural or acoustic performance.
How long does installation take?
HF1 panels are prefabricated and inserted between H-posts anchored in the ground. This quick installation method avoids on-site concrete pours and significantly shortens the worksite duration compared with a traditional noise barrier.
What are the dimensions of HF1 panels?
The standard panel width is 12 feet, with custom fabrication available up to 16 feet. Standard height is 5 feet, with custom heights up to 7 feet. For taller walls, panels can be stacked. For more details, consult our typical drawings.
Is the HF1 suitable along a railway?
Yes. The HF1 is regularly deployed along rail corridors in Europe to mitigate rolling and braking noise in urban areas.
Does the HF1 resist graffiti?
The reflective side, with its smooth larch surface, can receive a standard anti-graffiti coating. The absorptive side, designed to capture noise, is not suited to that treatment because the coating would reduce its acoustic properties. If graffiti exposure is a major criterion, Pilebyg® is naturally anti-graffiti thanks to its smooth willow stems.
Where is the HF1 manufactured?
The HF1 is manufactured in Canada in our facilities. Ramo handles distribution across North America, as well as installation and technical support for Canadian projects.
