A residential neighbourhood brought back below the comfort threshold
Back to noise barriersContext
A residential sector of Boucherville, located along boulevard Industriel, was exposed to noise levels exceeding the recommended thresholds.
The equivalent level over 24 hours reached about 69 dBA, above the 65 dBA threshold set by Quebec's ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable (MTMD). An intervention was required to reduce noise propagation toward the inhabited areas.
The solution implemented
Ramo designed, fabricated and installed a double-sided absorptive willow noise barrier. The system is based on:
- a load-bearing galvanized steel structure
- a high-density mineral wool acoustic core
- an exterior facing in debarked willow
The wall works mainly through absorption and attenuation of sound propagation.
Results and performance
The intervention enables a return below the comfort thresholds recommended by the MTMD in a residential context.
Co-benefits
Visual integration
Willow facing allowing better integration into a residential environment.
Social acceptance
A solution better accepted by local residents than a conventional concrete wall.
Durability
A robust galvanized steel structure combined with natural materials.
Environment
Reduced carbon footprint and mitigation of the heat island effect compared to concrete.
