Leachate and rainwater managed on the same site
Saint-Nicéphore (WM) engineered landfill
Back to Evaplant®Context
The Saint-Nicéphore engineered landfill produces significant leachate volumes as precipitation percolates through residual materials.
These effluents vary over time and require treatment before discharge. Impacted water is treated on site, then sent to municipal infrastructure, creating costs and dependence on external systems.
The solution implemented
Ramo implemented an Evaplant® system over 8 hectares, with about 130,000 willows.
The system uses controlled leachate irrigation to support:
- treatment without discharge, through evapotranspiration
- contaminant degradation by soil bacteria and uptake by willows
The patented control technology adjusts leachate inputs based on water and climate conditions, preventing runoff or leachate percolation outside the root zone.
Results and performance
Treatment without discharge
- up to ~35,000 m³ of leachate treated without discharge annually
Environmental performance
- > 35,550 m³ of leachate evapotranspired instead of discharged to the receiving environment to date
- ~280 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent captured annually
Co-benefits
