Context
The Sablière Demers, located in Mirabel, faced the typical challenges of sites nearing the end of operations:
- low soil organic matter content
- wind and water erosion
- soil instability
- colonization by opportunistic species
The project aimed to rapidly establish a structuring vegetation cover capable of accelerating the site's progressive restoration.
The solution implemented
Ramo established an intensive revegetation based on fast-growing willows and complementary species across several sectors of the quarry.
The project includes:
- up to 8.6 ha of active planting
- up to 268,800 trees and willows planted
- valorization of fertilizing residuals
- mechanized planting
- progressive restoration of worked cells
Aerial view (intensive revegetation of the Sablière Demers, Mirabel).
Results and benefits
Rapid soil stabilization
Rapid establishment of a vegetation cover that limits erosion and particle movement.
Reduction of invasive species
Rapid occupation of the site by the plantings.
Improvement of physicochemical properties
Input of organic matter through fertilizing residuals valorized on site.
Progressive restoration
Integration of the work directly into the site's operational evolution.
Sector under active planting (fast-growing willows planted mechanically).
