Role Overview:
Ramo is seeking a resolute and knowledgeable Senior Project Manager for our Western Division. The ideal candidate will have experience in agrology or environmental engineering, with a strong focus on project management and strong experience in agrology or environmental engineering, to effectively lead and manage various projects in agriculture, landfill leachate/effluent management, and mine reclamation. This senior-level role will involve developing and overseeing field projects, conducting desktop evaluations, and ensuring successful project execution from inception to completion. The position can be based out of Calgary (partially office-based) or Edmonton (fully remote), with travel to work sites required for extended periods (approximately 3 weeks at a time).
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Development and Management:

- Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of complex agronomy-related willow projects within the Western Division, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and sustainability practices.
- Develop comprehensive project scopes, objectives, and detailed work plans for Agrology projects, Evaplant landfill leachate projects, and mine reclamation projects, with a specific emphasis on utilizing willows for eco-engineering.
- Field Project Oversight:

- Conduct in-depth field assessments and monitoring to evaluate project progress, effectiveness, and environmental impact, particularly regarding the implementation of willow-assisted restoration techniques.
- Collaborate with field teams to provide expert technical guidance, ensuring adherence to best practices in agrology and environmental stewardship.
- Collect and analyze data to inform project decisions, recommend improvements, and assess the effectiveness of willow-based interventions.
- Desktop Evaluations:

- With the support of team members across Canada, undertake thorough desktop evaluations for potential projects, leveraging scientific research and environmental data to assess feasibility, particularly in the context of willow application in contaminated land.
- Stakeholder Engagement:

- Build and maintain strategic relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, regulatory bodies, and community organizations, to foster collaboration and support for project initiatives.
- Facilitate stakeholder meetings and workshops to gather input, educate on bioengineering techniques, and provide project updates.
- Regulatory Compliance:

- Ensure all projects comply with relevant environmental regulations and standards, with a particular focus on best practices for using willows in environmental restoration.
- Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practices in agrology and environmental management.
- Team Collaboration:

- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to integrate expertise and drive project success.
- Mentor and support junior staff members in technical, project management aspects, and the intricacies of utilizing willows in environmental applications.
- Manage both professional and field staff within a project with strong supervisory and leadership skills.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Agrology, Environmental Science, or a related field (master’s degree an asset).
- 5+ years of proven experience in project management within the fields of agriculture, environmental science, or land reclamation, with a strong emphasis on agrology practices. Management of organic residuals (effluents, leachates, biosolids etc.) considered an asset.
- Deep understanding of agrology principles, landfill leachate management, mine reclamation processes, and the application of willows in environmental remediation.
- Proficiency in project management software and tools.
- Excellent communication and people skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a keen diligence.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple priorities.
- Understanding of irrigation systems an asset.
- Willingness to travel to project sites across western Canada for extended periods (up to 3 weeks).
- Fluency in written and spoken English (French is considered an asset)
- Understand that climate change is a major driver in society and desire to mitigate this phenomenon.
Working environment
Our projects are located across Western Canada. The successful candidate will be required to travel as required and visit our various planting sites as well as the various generators of residual materials. Our head office is in Saint-Roch-de-l’Achigan, Quebec, and our Western Team is based out of Edmonton, Calgary, and Vancouver, with a small satellite office in Camrose, Alberta.
Job Requirements:
This is a full-time, permanent position based on 40 hours per week. The schedule is flexible in the winter months, so there is no need to ask permission if you are going to the hairdresser or for an oil change. You will be responsible for managing your own time.
This role requires travel on a schedule that is determined by weather, the company’s project commitments, and other time-sensitive factors. The travel requirement is not negotiable. Qualified candidates will be required to accept travel within Canada, for periods up to 10 days at a time, with an appropriate gap between assignments. Travel is at its peak from May through to July, and From September through to October.
During the field season, a time bank will be instituted. Extra work is expected, and that work will be able to be used to promote leave within the off-season on a one-for-one basis. This role is not overtime eligible.
